AGENDA

CYBER SMART
I enjoyed listening to Fiona speak today about Cyber Smart. I liked how she mentioned to keep the language positive-eg "what will I see you doing if you are doing the right thing online".

HAPARA
I still can't believe Hapara this so new to me. I think it is amazing. I had some PD with Tony last week around Hapara so I knew mostly everything Dorothy was saying today but one thing I learnt is that when you click in gmail, if the title of the email is still bold it tells you they haven't opened the email. Good to know!

MANAIAKALANI JOURNEY

EXPLAIN EVERYTHING

CHROMEBOOK SIMULATOR and DIGITAL DIG
This lesson would have been even more valuable if we were able to use a chrome book, the Manaiakalani team did a great job at thinking outside the square to try and continue this mahi. I have used a student chrome book a few times but not enough to really understand the differences. This is definitely something all teachers should do to be able to support their tamariki more with their learning.

CYBER SMART
I really enjoyed having time today to explore the Cyber Smart Values. Below I have added links to two screencastify videos I made while exploring them.

Janine and myself are in the process of making a time to meet with Amie around our Blogs and Google Sheets.

SITES

CONNECT

Today I felt like I did a lot of listening and didn't make too many notes: just one of those days.

EXPLORING SITES
Today it was great that we got loads of time to learn (exploring others sites), share (what we have done so far on our sites) and then create (we were given time to add to our sites). I really enjoyed looking over other sites and getting ideas from them.

GOOGLE SITES
I do feel like my team have done quite a good job with our site (obviously so much still to do and learn but I am proud of how far we have some)

BLOG TIPS

Over the past week I have been working A LOT on my reading slides with the help of Chebs, I am so excited about presenting my reading programme this way when we eventually go back to normal. I also had some PD with Tony Scragg on Hapara last night. I learnt quite a bit:
-To email our parents I go to etap and select only their email addresses and then copy into my email (make sure to BBC it)
-Once I have created a Google Meet I copy the emails from 'class info' and then add guests. You can also copy the meet link (date the date) and that way the link stays the same.
There was so many other handy hints and features I learn about Hapara

*I need to get more clued up with Flipgrid.
*I didn't quite understand the instructions for the Blog Tips today.
*Need to use sheets (create them myself) so the tamariki can add their mahi

Really grateful for all the people who are helping me learn so much! You know who you are!

Very proud of the mahi I have put in with my Reading Slides.

Collaborate-Sites

We started off our day with a great idea from Maria...A Grateful Chain! I really enjoyed listening to what everyone had to say. Lovely way to start the day :)

I really enjoyed today as it was about Sites and I have been wanting to explore this tool more and was feeling frustrated with how to layout things. I really enjoyed the second part of the day when I worked alongside Janine, Julia and Sarah with Chebs to create a 'Reading' slide and a Site. I have been wanting to try and do my reading planning more on slides so I felt like this was really worthwhile.

Dorothy talking about making things visible for our tamariki and whanau. I enjoyed listening to what she had to say as it all makes so much sense. We need to make sure the learning is visible for all to see so there are no surprises. I can't wait to have our site up and running more so the whanau can see what their tamariki will be learning etc and also so there are no surprises for anyone.

* Dorothy mentioned the 'Parent Portal' on Hapara. I didn't even know about this. To be honest I had never heard of Hapara until I arrived at Awapuni this year. I need to so some learning around this amazing site.

Kerry made so many great points about how to make your sites engaging, we need to get our tamariki and whanau hooked. She shared a great video around 'Shop Window'-I need to think of our site etc like a shop window! *Slide 20 has some good examples

I really enjoyed creating my own sites (2) today as we had created one as a team awhile ago but it was great to have a go at it again on my own. While working with Chebs I asked about the layout-LAYOUT is exactly it, the different options make everything on your slide sit nicely.

Main text, complementary text, scaffolding and challenging text. I love this idea-it makes me think why I haven't thought about this or been exposed to it sooner. It is so great for learners, we should be giving them the option to try more challenging things. A good way to think of each text type is like a 'Running Record' level.
While creating our Reading Slide today I learnt about the website Epic Reading and Wonderpolis.

*Towards the end of our session with Chebs we did a few settings things around 'publishing' etc. I feel like I need to go over this again.

My Site

Here is my collaborative Reading Slide

YAY! I embedded my slide myself...I am starting to think it is different with Google Forms??

Amy shared this today

*My grid didn't work for me today on Google Hangout like it did last week. Not sure why
*Still haven't worked out how to get the macrons on for maori kupu (not sure how to do it on an hp)

Bit brief today...my daughter wants me to play-so off I must go!

Update:
Buttons, Buttons, Buttons...I created some!
