Dealing with Data

AGENDA

Well what a day! There were times today where I felt really overwhelmed today but in all honesty I feel like that when we are in our room at Awapuni School with all the other DFI colleagues. I need to be positive during this tough time and appreciate the fact that we were still able to do our mahi via Google Hangout and it was awesome seeing so many kanohi.

GOOGLE FORMS
Using google forms was probably the best part of the day for me as I felt I had success. I have never created a google form but after being shown today I realised how easy it is and it was fun! I have created one Your Day and put it on our Team Toroa Site and popped the link on our FB page. Hopefully the tamariki have a go at filling it in for me :) I look forward to using this in my reading workshops (comprehension follow up activities).

**I couldn't remember how to embed my form into my BLOG so it just shows up!!
-I obviously need to practise this more!!

MY MAPS
I understand that using maps could be a great learning tool for our tamariki but today I found it hard to get hooked on this session. I need to go back and think of ways to utilise this great tool. One point that was made is when using this with the tamariki think carefully about the activity you are getting them to do (make sure they are being cyber smart).

GOOGLE SHEETS
I really enjoyed this session as I have not really used google sheets that well in the past. It was great being shown so many handy tips and it was a bonus getting 'Sheets on Speed' to help us with our exam. I need to make sure I go over this also.

BLOGGING DATA BASE
What a great idea to get the tamariki more motivated to get blogging more! Amie is going to create a video to help me more with this.

BLOGGER
Here are some great tips for blogging, especially using labels.

BUTTONS
Today I popped into our WWW that I would like to know more about creating buttons-it was awesome to have someone respond with this slide, so grateful for all the support.

Some further thinking for me...
-I want to have a Hangout with the Toroa Tamariki at some stage, could make it fun like doing a little Name Workout with them, will be a nice way to see each other
-Sharing is a sign that they have finished their mahi-Dorothy made a good point there!
-I want to get our whanau/tamariki more engaged with our BLOG and our SITE
-Dorothy put a picture of a box of books sitting in a container to be marked, it made me think, if we move more into online what will parents think when the stationary that they paid for is empty because they are doing all their mahi online. How do we manage that shift?
-I can't remember how to embed my form into my BLOG so it just shows up!
-I can't remember how to put a link in a doc so it jumps you down the page-was it to do with the 'contents' learning that we did awhile ago-I need to check
-How do I create a Hangout link?

One bonus, I got to see my niece and nephew today via our Hangout-thanks Ada!

And I got to have my morning tea with my darling Isla :)

Week 3 Media

AGENDA

Week 3...
During the first part of the day I was feeling left behind about a few things but luckily we got some time to explore things we hadn't quite got. The two main things for me was getting my head around Youtube (I didn't even have my own channel) and the second bit of mahi was using slides to create an animation. I am so pleased that I got my head around these two things.
NOTE: Creating an animation could be become quite addictive :)

CREATE
First thing this morning we had a Hangout with Anne. She got me super motivated about integrating our mahi and tapping into our local curriculum, getting the tamariki motivated, creating, thinking deeply and differently, tamariki having ownership of their mahi and empowering tamariki through creativity.

LIVE STREAMING
How amazing this would be for our whanau!

YOUTUBE CHANNELS
I have never used youtube that well, I had always thought it was just a way to 'watch videos'. With Kent we explored creating 'playlists' (something I was ok with doing). But then it came to sharing that playlist on our Team Toroa BLOG (a multiplication playlist). Luckily we had time to go through this a bit more.
Notes:
Click on...
-Playlist settings
-3 dots...playlist settings-allow embedding and new videos - advanced settings (unlisted) and then cancel.
-New Share and then embed, copy it and then embed into my side (change code-auto play and the size)

PLAYLISTS

GOOGLE DRAWING
I enjoyed this mahi with Amie. There are so many things you can do with Google Drawing and Kent mentioned that do all their planning and even reports on it. I enjoyed creating a drawing which I added to my BLOG profile pic.

GOOGLE SLIDES
I need to use slides more, teachers use it for their reading workshops etc and it is also a way to create comic strips. Playing around with Google Slides has been my favorite part of the day. This morning we were shown some animations using Google Slides, I had no idea how it worked. But after having some time to explore I was hooked! See my creation below. I will be suggesting to the team that we give the tamariki some time to create an animation apopo (link it with our mahi).

Notes:
Explore Tall Tweets (didn't load - 0.6 and 0.2 save and down load, back to slide, insert slide, insert image)
Or publish to web - Embed (396 and 670) or change to small and change time! Also change 1000 to 600

DIGITAL PEPEHA

Some things I have more wonderings about:
Buttons-I had been wondering about these from the mahi Amie does on our site.
I must comment on others blogs
And I need to use screencastify rather than writing notes to myself (next week maybe)

Week 2 Workflow

AGENDA

So what...
Today I was exposed to so much new learning I am finding it hard to start!!

The first thing that was shared with us today was that you can now also remove the background of a short video, thanks Chebs!

HANGOUTS (from slide 18)
Today we explored this tool, we were part of a chat with Lenva Sharing and then this afternoon myself, Janine and Karla were part of a chat where we discussed some mahi done by some tamariki. We did a fantastic job and it was recorded but unfortunately we had a tech issue and we were unable to hear ourselves speak haha.

LEARN with Lenva Sharing.
Some key point's from Lenva:

Learn, Create, Share (make it inclusive)
To create effective practice
In a digital learning environment

Goals:
Fluency using basic skills (learners together)
Supporting the teachers and put into practice
Understand the effectiveness of digital learners
Understand how the kaupapa has been created

“Must be swimming in that digital ocean”

Learners Learn Best… (see the slides)
Supportive environment
Encourage
Enhance
Facilitate
Make connections
Provide and Inquire

WFRC Findings:
Read from authentic texts
Learning by sharing ideas in discussion
Learn by thinking critically and developing strategies
Collaborating and making choices in learning, creating and sharing

Amplifying etc
Getting: From online etc
Giving: Put back online
Turbocharge: Where you hook your learners in

Capture the learning moments!! Make it rewindable.

I got super excited about Google KEEP and can't wait to explore and use it more. One down full though is that some function has been removed and unfortunately if you set a reminder for yourself it doesn't actually 'notify' you!! I have already added notes etc to my Google KEEP and also played around with taking a photo of a poster and then clicking 'grab image text' which then means you can copy the text that was in the photo!!

Bookmarks! How satisfying! I have now put my bookmarks into folders and for those that are not in folders have edited the names so they aren't so long. Something I need to explore more into is 'OneTab'. If I have a doc etc and want to add it somewhere (for example-KEEP) I must right click the mouse in the above section and it will give me that option.

I need to go back through this presentation and look more into the gmail options and calendar etc.

One last thing to finish on...

Week 2 Embedding the code...

This is actually my mahi from last week but I was unable to add it to my BLOG as a full screen. Today Chebs shared 'height=500 width=660' where you add it after the word 'frame'. I really need to keep practicing this as I know I will forget how to do it.

-File > Publish to the web and grab the HTML code New blog post > HTML > Paste

Ngā mihi,

Michelle.

Core Business-Week 1

AGENDA

Time to reflect:
Wow I have really enjoyed my mahi today with our first DFI session. Yesterday myself and Janine voiced to Amie that we were feeling a little overwhelmed by what is ahead. She assured us that we would be fine and even, if we took just one thing from today it would be worthwhile. Well I have taken many things away from today that I will add to my kete. So many tips that I will be able to use personally and with my tamariki in Team Toroa.

A few things...
-Google Groups
-Sharing and not sharing with people
-Making my emails all separate
-Control/Shift V not just Control V
-In a doc making the Title and then the headings (store it and then it will continue) and then inserting a content
-Voice typing tool
-Using the Explore Tool (much safer)
-Copy the text from the Explore Tool and then add the footer (")
-You can share a doc but make it so they don't receive and email
-Create some text so the tamariki can create/answer questions
-Scavenger hunt (create task for ready activity etc)
-Adding png to get no background, using snipping tools and removing the background
-Dragging a picture into my blog
-Putting my doc into my blog and making it large (need to work on that), or just screen shot
-Docs (add a table and then remove the lines)
-For next week...add a table to my blog!
